Fellowship Award
Following the Lagos 2004 32nd Annual General Meeting’s approval of the National Executive Committee’s recommendations, it is hereby announced to the generality of members of the Nigerian Cardiac Society that:
  • Every two years, at the Annual General Meeting the Nigerian Cardiac Society shall admit as FELLOWS OF THE SOCIETY deserving persons (members and non-members) who have made outstanding contributions to the development of cardiovascular healthcare in Nigeria.
  • No more than Eight fellows may be admitted at any such AGM, and recommended fellows shall be the all round top eight applicants. This is to promote excellence in Cardiovascular research and healthcare contributions in Nigeria
  • Such persons will qualify for the award if they fulfill the following criteria of eligibility:
  1. He/She shall be at least 12 years post qualification in the medical or allied field which include but is not limited to such professional groups as Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science and Physiotherapy, basic medical sciences groups as Pharmacology, Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry Chemical Pathology, Morbid Anatomy and Haematology.
  2. He/She shall at the same time be at least 5 years qualified in a cardiovascular related sub-specialty.
  3. He/She shall have at least 20 cardiovascular related publications in a peer reviewed learned journal.
  4. He/she shall pay a non-refundable application fee of N10,000.00
  5. On being found eligible, he/she shall pay the prescribed award fee which currently stands at N30,000.00
  6. Such persons, if members, shall be of good financial standing; members may wish to take advantage of the provision of a single payment of the life membership fee which currently stands at N50,000.00
    In the case of those outside the country, in addition to fulfilling clauses 1, 2, and 3 above:
    1. He/She shall pay a non-refundable application fee of $100.00
    2. He/She shall pay either an annual membership fee of $100.00 or a single life membership fee of $1,000.00
    3. He/She shall pay an award fee of $300.00
    Benefits to Fellows:
    • They shall be entitled to the use of the letters - FNCS after their names
    • They shall be exempted from any further payment of annual dues
    • They shall automatically become Fellows of the proposed Nigerian College of Cardiology when it is established
    • Their award shall be emblazoned on a bronze plaque which they may display at places of their choice
    • They shall be entitled to a copy each of the Nigerian Journal of Cardiology
    • They shall be entitled to other privileges which the National Executive Council shall from time to time announce.
